Second Journal Post
Upon reflecting on what I have learned so far in JMS 220, I realize that my knowledge has expanded primarily related to my news story writing skills. I have began reconditioning my writing style in order to accommodate the general public at an eighth grade writing level. I noticed that my writings previously tended to be too advanced and excessive when it came to vocabulary and language. I have learned to be more concise and straight forward in order to prevent as much confusion possible for my audiences.
I have also learned how to read a news story and then write a news brief accordingly, focusing on the most important points and topics at hand. I have noticed that is is easy to focus on the wrong pieces of information, so I am beginning to develop the habit of examining a piece of news information and communicating it in my own words for public viewing.
Lastly, I have been practicing AP style and GSP standards in order to prevent as many errors possible. I have realized how vital and important it is to really practice these habits in order to efficiently create writing pieces that are acceptable for public eye. My job is to communicate effectively to the public and practicing these thing I have noticed are direct tools to do so.
